With the Oscars looming on the horizon, the BAFTA results are in, and there were some surprises. They didn't come in the acting categories, with Helen Mirren and Forrest Whittaker taking home the big prizes, as they have at most of the recent awards ceremonies. Jennfier Hudson won yet another Best Supporting Actress prize, and Alan Arkin will now fancy his chances at the Kodak Theatre after winning Best Supporting Actor for his entertaining turn in the otherwise over-rated Little Miss Sunshine. The Queen won Best Picture, but don't forget these are the British Academy awards, so this may not be an indication of its chances at the Oscars. One of the biggest surprises was that Paul Greengrass took home the award for Best Director for his brilliant work on United 93, Cinemascope's Film of the Year for 2006. And perhaps another surprise is that Casino Royale, despite being nominated for nine awards, only won one award, for Best Sound.
