The gloves are off. The challenge has begun. Under brooding skies, with winter’s first snow nuzzling Ben Nevis, Dom Joly entered a seriously chilly ring for his first bout against the planet.

Over the course of six weeks, he will endure a series of nerve-jangling challenges, taking him from the Arctic Circle to the Pyrenees to the southern tip of Africa.
