Review
Attempting to emulate the improvised films of Christopher Guest (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind) is aiming high, so you have to give credit to the director and cast for their ambition. Ultimately though, Confetti has to be deemed a failure, for one reason: this is a comedy that is very, very short on laughs. Judged on their former work on TV shows such as Peep Show, The Office, Alan Partridge and Green Wing, the comic actors on show here are all talented performers, but the situations their characters are placed in are uninspiring and clichéd, and none of them make you fully believe in their characters as fully-formed people with lives that carry on once the cameras stop rolling. Only Mike Leigh veteran Alison Steadman shines, but her natural brilliance only serves to highlight the inadequacies of the rest of the production.
