Review
Featuring a fantastic soundtrack from early 70s Pink Floyd and Bowie to classic punk and Charles Aznavour, this coming-of-age drama deals with drug abuse, homosexuality, and life in French-speaking Quebec, and became the biggest home-grown success in the province's movie history. Essentially though, it's a movie about a father's relationship with his sons, and is funny, touching and at times serious in tone. Inevitably given it's lengthy running-time it can meander at times, but strong performances from Michel Cote as Gervais, the patriarch struggling with his sons' foibles, and Marc-Andre Grodin as the troubled Zach make this an unusual and rewarding experience on the whole.
