Review
A follow-up to surprise worldwide hit The Story Of The Weeping Camel, The Cave Of The Yellow Dog again offers a sort of cultural toursim, offering a surprisingly enthralling insight into the simple way of life of a young family of Mongolian nomads eking out their lives this time on the green velds of the Mongloian highlands, rather than the Gobi desrt of the first movie. Again, the story, such that it is, is slight, and the movie appears to have been made as a sort of guided documentary, with completely naturalistic events unfolding in a structured fashion. The cinematography of a land unfamiliar to most Western audiences is beautiful, and the performances are honest and sweet, with the youngest children enchanting to watch. A small gem of a movie that won't be seen by as many people as it should.
