Synopsis
Alex Fletcher (Grant), one half of 80s pop duo PoP! is presented with an opportunity to revive his flagging career, when hot teen sensation Cora Corman (Bennett) asks him to write her a song. Unable to write lyrics himself, Alex persuades Sophie (Barrymore), the girl who waters his plants, to collaborate with him on the project.

Review
The plot is fairly implausible - stretched to breaking point at times, and yet Music and Lyrics seems to just about work, and there's one big reason for this: Hugh Grant. He may be fifteen years older than his co-star, Drew Barrymore, and he may be doing what is often used as a criticism by some: playing the same character; but like his namesake Cary, Grant's charm and self-deprecation are a natural gift and provide enjoyment in even the most predictable movies. Drew Barrymore is fine, but as ever, the charm of the female lead in this romcom is drawn from her being ditzy, clumsy and neurotic. It'd be great to see a romantic comedy where the female lead was accomplished, strong and witty. Until then, we'll have to make do with another example of Hugh Grant lifting fairly humdrum material and making what could have been another predictable romcom into more enjoyable territory.
